ART CENTRE
- The art centre is one of the largest and most complete cultural
centre in the archipelago. Designed by Bali's foremost architecture,
Ida Bagus Tugur. The vast complex, apart from its very real cultural
function, is show place for Balinese temple and palace architecture.
The complex includes the open stage Arda Candra, Museum, Balinese
pavilions and sprawling, parklands, as well as their art galleries
(including one permanent art collection). Each year from mid-June
to mid-July the Bali Art festival is held here.
ULUWATU
- On the southern coast of Bali is the towering tableland of Bukit,
which drops dramatically into the sea at the sheer cliffs of Uluwatu.
The ancient temple of Pura Luhur Uluwatu located here, is populated
by the friendly tribe of monkeys. Uluwatu Temple beach is one of
the best surfing sports in the World because of its almost perfect
surfing break all year round.
TANAH LOT
- Carved out of the landscape by tides wind and rain, the huge offshore
sentinel rock of Tanah Lot is the site of a picturesque sea temple.
There is a bridge connecting the mainland and below the Water line
there are reputed to be large caves, the guardians of the temple.
BEDUGUL
- In the western highlands of Bali is the serene mountain area of
Bedugul where vegetables, fruits and flowers thrive in the alpine
climate. The colorful little market offers a wide selection of produce
including exotic strawberries. Less than an hour of Bangli lies
the tranquil crater lake of Mount Batur and the inpressive temple
gates of Pura Ulun Danu, one of the two major subak (irrigation
society) temples on the island.
 JATILUWIH
- Approximately 20 km from Tabanan, the road climbs up high into
the hills to a small village named Jatiluwih at a height of 850
meters above sea level. The view here is one of the finest imaginable:
Bali's terrace paddy fields stretch in endless contours over hills
and valleys as far as the eye can see.
SANGEH
- Families of monkey inhabit the sacred nutmeg forest of Sangeh
and fearlessly wander the temple and village. It doesn't pay to
hide peanuts in your pockets as these monkeys aren't shy, and won't
think twice about jumping on your shoulders to get a closer look.
TAMAN AYUN
- The temple of Taman Ayun is in Bali's Mengwi district. The name
Taman Ayun means "beautiful garden". There are many interesting
features of both the temple and the garden. The temple buildings
are fills with decoration, relief and statues of the nine gods.
The temple and the grounds were restored in 1973. There is a calm
tranquil feeling in the cool gardens with beautiful ponds. The temple
is approx. 18 km. from Denpasar on the way to Singaraja via Bedugul.
A cultural performance is held every afternoon in Pura Taman Ayun.
BATU BULAN
- Just out of Denpasar on the road to Ubud is a small village where
stone statues of a terrible fanged demons, noble warriors and animals
of all shapes and sizes and at all stages of completion rest under
the shady trees. From the young boys to the old men, all seem to
be accomplished stone carvers in Batu Bulan.
 CELUK
- The centre of gold and silver works, noted for its delicately
detailed work and fine filigree style silver pieces. Several hundred
silversmiths make their homes here and they are willing to fulfil
special orders.
MAS - Some
of the most talented wood carvers on the island live in Mas, and
in the workshops there can be found groups of young workers supervised
by elderly men. busy chiselling away Topeng masks, with their versatile
range of expressions and personalities . Masks are in either modern
or traditional form.
UBUD - Famous
for is painter's community. Ubud is a special place in many ways:
it has its own magic, and its particularly beautiful surrounding
and gracious way of life have drawn celebrities and artists from
all over the world, some of whom have adopted it as their own home.
Paddy fields, the monkey forest and a huge banyan tree create a
picturesque setting for this cultural centre.
